Looking Forward

shoot-267Every Saturday, I mostly just blather about whatever I’m thinking about that week. Sometimes its at least vaguely inspirational. It is always something that I thought significant. I’m sure the new year won’t bring anything different in that respect, at least.

At the end of the year, it’s traditional to look back and highlight this or that thing you accomplished. I’ve never been much for that tradition. I’ve always been one for looking ahead, not looking back. It’s not that I’m ashamed of anything I’ve ever done, but I always look toward what I can accomplish next.

When asked which photo she’d taken was her favorite, Imogene Cunningham used to answer that it was the one she’d take tomorrow. I always loved that. What I did yesterday doesn’t matter today. You’re only as good as your next project.

Or, to some it up in one word: Forward!

I’m looking forward to a new year to spend making pedals go around. I’m looking forward to developing more rolls of color and black and white. I’m looking forward to seeing things I have never seen, sleeping on the ground in places strange to me, gazing at the stars in a new place and a new way, and always being confronted with life being one challenge after another. I want to dirtbag in the back of the 4Runner in the desert, hike to the top of more mountains, follow the rails to new places, kick up the dust of backroads with my tires, and spend every moment I can alive and moving.

shoot-266I’ll have my beloved with me to share in all these things, and to suggest new things I’ve never thought of to put on the list. We’ll do all these things together, and we’ll continue to do them for years to come.

Forward, good people. Let us all go forward.

Slàinte, sonas agus beartas. A h-uile là sona dhuibh ‘s gun là idir dona dhuib.
